Epiphone ES-295, gold, made in Korea 2005. The Gibson ES-295 debuted in 1952, but made a massive splash when a certain Elvis Presley appeared on The Ed Sullivan show with Scotty Moore in tow, touting a big gold 295. Even lord of the Gretsches himself, Brian Setzer, described the ES-295 as 'the ultimate rockabilly machine'. This one is a Korean-made Epiphone take on the model, and it's nicely executed indeed. The finish and fretwork is really tidy, and all the little details are nicely done. The tone on offer is juicy: it's swampy and full, but with a nice percussive plonk on the top end. It's lovely for a dense chord or a sweet melodic line. Stay gold, folks!
