Epiphone Japan SG-70, made in Japan 2002, shiny antique white finish. This is an elusive Elite Series SG, which were made in the Fujigen plant from 2002-09. The models for the Japanese domestic market featured the classic Gibson style open book headstock; which this proudly sports. There's a reason these are so famed: it's a brilliant guitar in every way. The neck has the classic moderate round profile, the bound board is classy and really all feels 'spot on'. It's not neck-heavy like some SGs, so you don't get the 'headstock dive'; it's really nicely weighted. The Gibson USA-made humbuckers are PAF-voiced, so you get a sweet vintage style low-mid output with a heap of clarity, vibrance and punch. Cranked up and dirty, this absolutely sings, but it'll easily handle cleans with a lot of grace and character. The finish is noticeably thin to the eyes; you can hear the resonance springing forth from the guitar even unplugged. This one appears to have just about never seen daylight, the condition is superb. This is a brilliant guitar, it'll certainly match up well against significantly more expensive SGs. Winner!
