You can still get a brand new Hot Rod DeVille, and they're still a great choice for a no nonsense all valve clean amp with headroom to burn. This one, however, is a mid-90s USA made example, which makes it extra awesome. It's got the 4x10" speaker setup, which adds a whole lot of low end punch and focus and gives your playing a pounding percussive punch. The cabinet is extra solid, it's got the juicier old school big power transformer and it delivers a shimmering, rich fullness the newer models can't match, The clean is awesome, but the dirty is surprisingly good too: growly and thick with plenty of midrange kick and a pleasing creamy complexity. There's plenty of 'pedal platform' clean amps vying for your bucks these days, but this hails from the era of taping your Boss DS-1 and tuner to floor: the amp had to speak for itself back in the day, kids. This one does.
