Fender '62 Precision, black, made in Japan 1988. Pulling this out, you could be forgiven for thinking it was three months old... it's actually over three decades old, but oh boy, it's aged exceptionally gracefully. These 'E serial' instruments were among the first Fenders made at the Fujigen Gakki factory; they were the immediate successors to the famed and hyper collectable JV serial guitars and were made by the same hands on the same tools. The legendary build quality is obvious in the hands: the finish and fretwork are perfect, the neck is a beautifully selected arrow-straight piece of maple with a luxe dark, streaky rosewood board, the body is light and very lively and the whole thing just feels 'bang on'. Plugged in, this has that classic round, punchy P-thump: there's plenty of thick juicy attack and a warm, full midrange. The tuxedo white on black look never seems to go out of style... this will look equally at home playing shiny corporate showcases or sweaty garage punk shows. These early MIJ basses are increasingly collectable and decreasingly available as word of their outrageous playability spreads, so nab yourself a perfect P while it's going!

Cosmetic condition notes: minor finish wear. Headstock has some minor marks on the end, bottom edge and back, nothing major though. Neck is clean and smooth in the hands, minor dimples on the back only. The back has a handful of minor surface scratches, mostly along the bottom edge, as well as the start of some checking lines and some scuffs along the back edge; no major marks. The sides are pretty clean, just minor scuffs on both horns and minor dimples on the shoulder and near the jack. The front is also very tidy, just some minor scuffs on the shoulder and top horn and some play wear on the guard. Overall: very good condition (8/10)

Playing condition notes: Action is low, neck is straight, intonation is good, truss rod works. All electrics tested and working properly. Frets look great, minor wear only and freshly polished, 8/10 for fret life left. Set up with fresh 45/105s.
