Fender '65 Mustang, Dakota red, crafted in Japan 2010-11. You see a lot of the standard MG69 Mustang around, but the '65 version like this are far less common and a bit more deluxe on the spec sheet. Here's the differences: the body is made of poplar instead of basswood, the pickups are a vintage correct grey-bottom style alnico single coil, there's no belly carve, the neck has a wider Jaguar-style profile and the board is a slab-style big piece of rosewood. That all adds up to some extra brightness and zing to the unplugged sound, adding extra presence and definition in the top end and some additional weight and clarity through the lows. It's still got that punchy Mustang chime, but it's got a nice sparkle and a convincing thick and immediate low end to it. The Dakota red finish is super cool, it's a little darker and saucier than the Fiesta or Candy Apple red, and against the aged pearl guard and dark rosewood board, it radiates 60s cool. The neck has a 42mm nut, the same width as a standard Strat, Tele or Jag, which makes for a more familiar feel, which combined with the short scale and light body makes for a super easy player. I really enjoy playing this one, I'm confident you'll share the sentiment!
