(SOLD) Fender Japan '70 Precision Bass PB70-700R Vintage White 1989
Fender PB70-700R, vintage white, made in Japan circa 1989. I always buy these 1970 CBS-era style Japan P basses when I get the chance, but I very seldom get one made as early as this example. The thing that makes these really fun is the 40mm nut: halfway between a regular P and a standard Jazz in width, so it's got something like the best of both worlds. It weighs in a touch under 4kg and offers plenty of natural resonance; the thing really feels alive in the hands... the Fujigen luthiers are world-renowned for good reason it seems. The tone on offer is punchy and thick, with a generous kick on the front end, a strong fundamental note and plenty of warmth and body. The white finish has yellowed and mellowed and gained a few scrapes and bumps over the decades, so it's looking superbly streetsmart and pairs perfectly with the dark rosewood board and bold black logos. Safe as houses here I reckon.

Cosmetic condition notes: minor finish wear. The headstock has some minor dimples on the end, edges and back. The neck is clean and smooth in the hands, minor dimples on the back only. The back has some dimples and surface scratches on both horns, the middle and back edge, nothing nasty. The sides have minor dimples and scuffs around the whole body, nothing too major. The front has some scuffs around the bridge and knobs, dimples in the elbow area and some play wear on the guard and horns. Overall: very good condition (7.5/10)
Playing condition notes: Action is low, neck is straight, intonation is good, truss rod works. All electrics tested and working properly. The frets look great, minor wear only; 8/10 for life left. Set up with fresh 45/105 Moonshiners strings.
