Fender Japan Jaguar JG66-85 Lake Placid Blue 1998
Fender Jaguar, lake placid blue, crafted in Japan 1997-00. The Jag is Fender's coolest shape, and lake placid is surely amongst Fender's coolest finish options: bring them together, and good gracious, what a time to be alive. This one was made in the late 90s, and scouring the catalogs of the time will reveal three finish options: sunburst, white and red. The blue was a limited run, most likely part of a batch made for a specific Japan dealer at the time, and for every blue example you see, you're likely to come across fifty sunbursts. This one has had a couple of minor mods: a handy Mustang bridge, a since-removed the string bar and some wiring work. Our tech has restored this to factory wiring (no mean feat, he tells me there's almost five feet of wire in a Jag!), so it's all stock now save for the lead circuit switches being upside down, which conveniently makes it harder to accidentally turn off the pickups while playing. It sounds great: slicing, clear treble, moody mids with great note separation and a fast, tuneful bass. The clarity remains even when drowned in effects, so this is a perfect companion to your spaceship pedalboard if you're so inclined. Very snazzy indeed.
