Fender Japan Jazzmaster JM66-80 Sunburst 1998
Fender Jazzmaster, sunburst, crafted in Japan 1997-00. It looks very good, does it not? The Jazzmaster kicked off in 1959, full of Leo's best ideas for a new top-of-the-line model including the offset vibrato bridge and the dual circuit electronics. This Japan-made reissue references the 1962 version, and it feels and sounds great. The neck is slim and quick, the body is resonant and lively and the hardware is all in good order. We set these up nicely in the shop, so the break angle over the bridge is in great order, it's holding tune and behaving very nicely. The tone is great: open and slicing, clear as a bell, with a generous airy growl through the mids. There's a lot to like here, it's very good. Let's get dangerous?

Cosmetic condition notes: minor finish wear. The headstock has dimples and dents on the end and bottom edge, dimples on the top side and the back, as well as some surface scratches on the front near the end. The neck is clean and smooth in the hands, dimples and rub wear on the back only. The back has a chip and some dimples on the bottom corner, some dimples in the elbow area and middle of the body and some minor scuffs around the whole body . The sides have a dent a dimples on the top horn, minor chips and dimples in the elbow area, some decent dents and minor chips near the jack and scuffs on the bottom horn. The front has dents and dimples along the back and bottom edge, dimples and scuffs on the elbow area and some scuffs and play wear on the guard and horns.
Overall: good condition (7/10)
Playing condition notes: Action is low, neck is straight, intonation is good, truss rod works. All electronics tested and working properly. Wearing fresh 11/49 Moonshiners strings.
Fret life: 7/10, minor wear only
