Fender Mustang Bass, crafted in Japan 2002-4, gloss black. Mustang basses are charming little items: the short scale, slim neck and offset body make them stupendously easy players. The short scale also anchors the thumpy, thick, immediate tone that'll slot perfectly into punk, grunge and surf. The gloss black finish is a classy touch; we haven't had one through the shop in this hue before and it certainly has a punk-in-a-tuxedo appeal. These are getting extremely hard to get hold of even in Japan, they're a pretty safe bet to appreciate steadily over the next few years as they were never made in huge numbers. Proper cool.
