Fender Thinline Tele, sunburst, made in USA 1998. This is an exceptional guitar. The Thinline Tele debuted in 1969 and went through a couple of iterations before being discontinued in 1980. There wasn't a USA made Thinline in the Fender catalog until this model made it's debut in 1997; even then, these were only made for a few years and are not exactly common. The '90s Thinline' has some cool eccentricities: two single coils, the cute '69 style guard, 'greasebucket' tone circuit and slick double binding. The finish is outstanding; the grain of the ash peeking through the burst is delicious, plus the binding and dark rosewood board really makes the whole thing pop. In the hands, the super lightweight body is very lively and resonant; it springs to life with the slightest touch. The neck is reassuringly sturdy and straight and a sensible modern C shape; easy to get along with and quick to switch between rhythm and lead parts. Plugged in, the chiming Tele-twang is absolutely present, but it's balanced by an airy sweetness in the attack and a warm gooey midrange... very, very tasty indeed. This one ships in the original deluxe G&G case with some candy. If you're only going to buy one Tele, better make it a good one!
