(SOLD) Gibson L-4A EC Jumbo Acoustic/Electric Sunburst 2009
Gibson L-4A EC, sunburst, made in Montana USA 2009. The L-4A is a jumbo style acoustic, but slightly undersized: 24.75" scale and an inch smaller across the body than a J-200. It's still got the other luxe touches: hand scalloped bracing, dovetail joint, abalone rosette, moustache bridge... nice stuff. The back and sides are solid Indian rosewood, paired with a high grade solid sitka spruce top, which is looking mighty fine underneath the classy nitro sunburst finish. The smaller size makes it a comfy player: it sits nicely in the hands, strapped or seated, and has a certain cozy charm to it. It doesn't have the same sustain as a J-200 or the same expansive lows ands mids a J-45, but it has it's own thing going on: superb balance, a rewarding complexity, a tuneful tight low end that weights chords brilliantly. There's a lot to enjoy here, and finding another one in the country is no mean feat. Lovely stuff!

Cosmetic condition notes: minor finish wear. The headstock has some dimples on the end and bottom edge, light scuffs on the back and some checking lines on the front. The neck is clean and smooth in the hands, minor dimples on the back and a small dent near the body join only. The back has widespread light scuffs around the whole body, no major marks though. The sides have minor dimples on both horns and the elbow area and some scuffs and finish burn on the bottom corner, nothing nasty. The front has some dimples and a little finish burn mark in the bottom corner, a small dent behind the bridge, scuffs along the back edge, scuffs and some dimples in the elbow area, some lifting around the edges of the guard and some scuffs from play on the guard and horns. Overall: very good condition (7.5/10).
Playing condition notes: Low action, neck is straight, intonation is good, truss rod works. All electronics tested and working properly. Frets look nice and even and in pretty good shape, 8/10 for life left. Wearing fresh 12/54 Moonshiners strings.
