Gibson LP Studio, gloss black, made in USA 2011. There's a no-nonsense appeal to the LP Studio, I've long felt drawn to the toned-down aesthetic and the big thick juicy tone on offer. This ones dates to around ten years ago, so it's got a little bit of honest wear around the edges but it's in pretty shiny shape overall. The combination of slick glossy black, streaky rosewood and gleaming gold hardware makes for a classy look: flash, but not pretentious. The neck is a comfy slim sixties style shape, so it's easy to move around quickly on and never makes you work too hard. The tone on offer is a thick, dark, moody crunch. The neck pickup delivers a long, warm lead tone with plenty of nuance and body, while the bridge pickup delivers a great balance of spiky treble and creamy goodness through the midrange. My inner teenage skate punk is always going to love this guitar, it's unapologetically a riffmonster and won't be told otherwise.
