(SOLD) Greco EG200 Hollow Body Cherry Red 1971
Greco EG200, made in Japan 1971, cherry red. Man, this one was a bit of a journey. It arrived from Japan in a bit of a sorry state, so we had decisions to make. We had our woodwork and finishing tech replace the original neck and fretboard, but keep the original headstock overlay, as well as replace some hardware. We then had our wiring specialist tech do a full re-wire with new pickups to bring it all to life. It came up playing and sounding great, and it's so cool to bring something back from the brink like that. We then sold it to a very busy local player, so it's done a stack of gigs to prove it's mettle, and now... he traded it back in, so it's looking for love once more. All that aside, it's a very cool guitar. The neck is comfy and slim, the body is lightweight and being fully hollow and several decades old, it's very responsive. The new hardware means the thing holds tune pretty well and you can actually get it intonated, which I suspect would not be the case for an 'all original' model. It delivers this certain soulful, rich, eloquent voice, it's really quite something. Being a bolt-on and fully hollow construction, it's got a naturally short sustain, which lends a more percussive plonk to the attack, which is really fun. There's plenty of gooey complexity on offer to lend your chords a bit of majesty. A collector's piece? Maybe not, but dang, it's a charming little piece of history for sure.

Mods: original headstock overlay attached to custom made replacement mahogany neck and headstock. Note the new neck has a new fretboard with new inlays. Tuners, tailpiece and bridge replaced. New pickups and surrounds installed. Rewired with new pots, wire, caps and switch. Jack moved to the side, original hole plugged. Knobs replaced.

Cosmetic condition notes: minor finish wear. The headstock has some marks on the end. The neck has minor dimples and scuffs from play, it's clean and smooth in the hands. The back has widespread light scuffs around the whole body and some long finish checking lines, as well as some dimples in the elbow area, bottom horn and near the jack. The sides have minor dimples along the whole top side, a slight widening of the seam along the bottom side near the jack, as well as some dimples near the jack and on the bottom horn and some old screw holes from a removed guard. The front has a dent near the top F-hole, as well as some scuffs around the whole body, most notably around the pickups, bridge and knobs, as well as standard play wear on the horns. Overall: very good condition (8/10).
Playing condition notes: Neck is straight, intonation is good, action is low, truss rod works. All electronics tested and working properly. Frets have some normal wear, around 7/10 for life left. Setup with fresh 11/49s.
