(SOLD) Greco EG800G Gold Top 1978
Greco EG800 gold top, made in Japan 1978. Whoa... that's a good looking guitar! The late 70s and early 80s is often referred to as Greco's 'golden age'; this stunning creature hails from the middle of that famed period. The -800 in the model number denotes that this was a higher end offering; so you get a tidy, fairly lightweight unchambered mahogany body, fretboard binding and nibs, the deluxe version of Greco's PAF-style humbuckers, nice machine heads... all the good stuff. MIJ-LP enthusiasts will likely have occasionally come across the cherry and tobacco sunburst versions of this model, but the gold top finish is a rare treat. There's a bit of honest wear around the edges of the finish, but for four decades of play it's in pretty tidy shape. The slim neck features some beautiful tight grain in the maple and dark rich colouring in the rosewood, it looks and feels amazing. The tone on offer is very convincing. The neck pickup packs a walloping attack, but responds kindly to a light touch too, and delivers a nuanced clear treble to balance the plonky, full low end. The bridge pickup is full bodied and rich with a girthy, fat midrange and a colourful, talkative top end. This has that clarity and sparkle a good LP offers, balanced with heaps of grunt and attitude. It's literally been years since we were graced with one of these high end gold top Grecos, so if you've been waiting for the right one, don't let this one pass you by.

Cosmetic condition notes: minor finish wear. The headstock has some scuffs on the end and around the posts. The neck is clean and smooth in the hands, minor dimples and rub wear on the back only. The back has a scratch near the switch cover, a few dents and dimples in the middle and on the top edge in the elbow area, a few scuffs around the back edge and some light buckle rash in the middle of the body. The sides have minor dimples and scuffs around the whole body, no major marks. The front has some chips and dents around the edge in the elbow area and back edge around to the knobs area, some light peeling on the bottom horn, some dimples behind the bridge and in the elbow area and some standard play wear on the horns. Note the guard is missing. Overall: good condition (7/10).
Playing condition notes: Neck is straight, action is low, intonation is good, truss rod works. All electrics tested and working properly. The frets have been recently levelled and polished but there is some height missing, 6/10 for life left. Wearing fresh 10/52 Moonshiners strings.
