Ibanez SR1200 Soundgear Natural 1994
Ibanez Soundgear SR1200, natural gloss, made in Korea 1994. The Soundgear series launched in 1987 and has been in continuous production ever since. This one dates to late last century, and was almost the highest-end offering in the line at the time, with a retail price of USD$1099 in 1994. It's a quality build: that neck-through five piece laminate centre is a thing of beauty. It's got a high mass brass bridge, a brass nut, gold hardware, a crisp hi-fi P/J pickup set and a handy active preamp with a parametric mid EQ. THe sound is great: modern and clear, balanced across the strings, plenty of attack and oomph... it will cover everything from gospel to metal to funk with grace and ease. The neck is super fast and easy, and with seamless access up to the top frets and a wildly light 3.8kg body, this is a busy player's dream. My oh my!
