Peavey G-V Bass Charcoal Metallic 1991

Peavey G-V, charcoal metallic, made in USA 1991. Peavey are best known for their amps, but they made some innovative and impressive guitars and basses in days gone by too, some of which have become cult classics. The G series basses have aa particular trump card up the sleeve: a carbon fiber neck. A few companies have ventured into such undertakings, most notably boutique builders Modulus, but their basses will set you back A$7k+. The idea was that a carbon fiber neck is super stable, so you can travel the world to different climates, seasons and humidity levels and pull out your bass with no concern that the action will have somehow dived to zero or jumped to infinity. It feels good to play, as super-rigid  tends to also mean evenly resonant. The pickups are big beefy humbuckers, paired with an active 3-band EQ, so you can dial it quite precisely to find your particular thump. In my books it will definitely do it's best work in the metal universe, the fat snarly kick leans naturally in that depraved direction. This is heaps of bass for the cash and a cool little piece of 90s-USA innovation.
