Roland JC-120 Jazz Chorus 2x12" Guitar Combo Amp 1983
It's big, it's clean, it's got that glorious chorus, and it's on wheels... my oh my, what a cosmic miracle it is to be alive. This beastly beauty dates to 1983 and was made in Japan, so it certainly counts as an OG-example. It's heavy, but the wheels make moving it around pretty easy, and it's kinda handsome in a vintage sci-fi way. The sound is unmistakable: immense thick clean tones, abounding dynamic response owing to the less compressed nature of a solid state amp, with a weighty tuneful low end, balanced dry mids and an airy, understated top end. The EQ is powerful and easy to use, the distortion adds a kind of lo-fi scunge that might be fun here and there, the reverb is gorgeous... but the best thing is the chorus and vibrato. It uses the two speakers to great effect, delivering a wide, spacious wobble that you can just get totally lost in. This is such a satisfying piece of equipment, I actually hope it doesn't sell so I can enjoy it forever.
