Squier J, white, made in Japan 1985. This little beauty hails from the famed 'A-serial' period of 1985-6, just one year after the legendary 'JV serial' era of 1983-4. If it were made just two months earlier in the JV-serial period, it'd potentially fetch several hundred dollars, so even though this is the same bass from the same factory with the same specs, you get a shot at a bargain. The 1980s Japan-made Squiers are famous for exceptional build quality and fine quality wood selection, all adding up in the hands to a brilliant playing experience. This has 'the thing'... it's lively and talkative in the hands and pumps out a bright, thumping tone with a heap of nuance and character. The finish has been attacked by a previous owner with something like sand paper, so it's got a light relic job presumably intended to take some sheen off the white finish; it's cool in a slightly weird way. The

Model: Squier Jazz Bass SJB-55
Made: Japan, Fujigen Plant, neck date 8 Feb 1985 (serial A026322)
Finish: vintage white, 3-ply white guard
Body: basswood (possibly alder)
Weight: 4.2kg approx
Neck: maple with rosewood board, dot inlays
Mods: light-relic job, jack replaced, otherwise original
Pickups: Squier Japan JB Single x2
Case: vintage faux-leather gig bag

Cosmetic condition notes: moderate finish wear. Headstock has a few little dings on the end and bottom edge, as well as some scuffs around the decals and on the back below the machine heads. The neck is fairly clean, just some very minor dimples; nothing that inhibits play. The back has some checking on the bottom horn, some scratches on the top horn, some scuffs near the plate and some minor simples extending around the back edge. The sides have quite a few small marks, nothing nasty; concentrated mostly around from the jack and knobs and on the shoulder area. The front has been roughly sanded to take the sheen off and give it a 'relic' look; it's not the tidiest of jobs but from a metre or two away it looks pretty minor; as such there's some scratching basically covering the whole front, see the pics. Overall: fair condition (6/10).

Playing condition notes: Action is low, neck is straight, intonation is good, truss rod works. Frets have some minor wear, they look brilliant for their age; 8.5/10 for life left. All electrics tested and working properly. Set up with fresh 45/105s.
