Yamaha PB400 Pulser Bass, made in Japan in 1980. This is a little piece of aged-P-perfection. We love vintage Yamaha around here, and it's because it's such exceptionally good gear for such little cash. This has a really sweet three piece ash body; you really feel each note ringing through the timber as you play it. The neck as aged to perfection: it's a dark golden brown that feels and looks stunning. These pack plenty of P-punch: the ash/maple combo lends a lot of sonic mojo to the effortlessly-simple design. This will hold it's own against basses 5-10 times the price, you won't stop smiling!
Model: Yamaha Pulser Bass PB-400
Made: Japan, 1980 (best estimate, serial 009790)
Finish: natural gloss over sen ash, 3-ply white guard
Body: sen ash, 3-piece
Neck: maple with maple board, dot inlays
Mods: none
Pickup: original Yamaha P-style split-single coil
Case: none
Cosmetic condition notes: minor finish wear. There's some peeling on the headstock around the decal, and the neck and board have discoloured to a deep, overcooked-pancake golden brown. There's a bunch of little dimples and nicks around the body, none of them are big and nasty. There's a sticker mark on the guard along with plenty of play-wear. Overall: good condition (7/10)
Playing condition notes: Action is low, neck is straight, intonation is good, truss rod works. All electrics tested and working properly. Frets have some wear, but they're fairly even and have plenty of life left, 6/10. Proper P!
