Yamaha SF-1000 Super Flighter, made in Japan 1977. Here's another brilliant example of vintage Yamaha awesomeness. The SF series were a Yamaha original shape; they've gained a niche but dedicated global following owing to their brilliant playability and unique shape. The deep double cut gives you easy access to all 24 frets; combined with the slick slim neck and ebony board, this is an absolute breeze on the fingers with a classy and luxurious feel. The F-1 pickups are a sweet: extremely responsive, bright and clear, open airy mids... they're a delight and really bring out the best in the vintage alder body. Yamaha's 'bi-sound system' was an early example of coil tapping; there's a heap of sonic colours available with a twist of the knobs and the push of a button. The 'oil stain' finish could've been better named, but it looks amazing, especially with a few decades on the clock and some aged gold hardware to match. If you're a fan of PRS-style versatility and precision, you'll love this.

Cosmetic condition notes: minor finish wear. There's a couple of tiny chips on the end of the headstock. The neck is pretty clean, just a little lacquer wear on the bottom edge of the board around the first couple of frets. The back looks good, just a couple of little dents near the rear strap pin and some widespread but very minor buckle rash. The sides have a few dimples around from the knobs, opposite that in the shoulder area and near the strap pin. The front is pretty clean, just a few dimples near the knobs and bridge, some wear on the pickup surrounds and some play scratches on the guard and top horn. Overall: very good condition (8/10)

Playing condition notes: Action is low, neck is straight, intonation is good, truss rod works. All electrics tested and working properly. Frets look pretty good, there's  some normal wear but nothing nasty, 7/10 for life left. Wearing fresh 11/49s.
