№30 Rogers Big R XP-10 Super-Ten 14x8 Maple Snare Drum 1983 Natural
Rogers enjoy a loyal cult following, with some connoisseurs boasting some serious collections. This one does not have the original lugs or strainer, and instead is held together with a basic Pearl Sensitone style strainer and lugs that bear some semblance to Dolphin hardware. We believe the hoops to be original, however and the internal dampener is in working order--big pro! The serial number places this as a 1983 model and the natural maple finish has aged to reflect this. So, the shell--You get a 14x8 Keller shell made up of 10 plies of North American maple. The finish has checked in a lovely way and the shadow of the old lugs is visible like a glow around the stand-ins. The Pearl throw isn't aesthetic, nor is it fancy, but it gets the job done just fine. The snare sounds great. The attack is smooth and the sustain is thick with a strong fundamental. Tuned low, you get the beefy 'doosh' you'd expect. At medium tuning, you'll get body and a bit more attack and detail. Tuned up high, you won't get the sensitivity or articulation you'd find in a shallower shell, but it still boasts warmth. The Rogers fanatics have bought up every last drum they can find, so here's your chance to get in on the fun. This one's player's grade too so you can take it to a gig with a clear conscience. We can't guarantee you'd be safe from the Rogers Owners Forum's inner circle, though.

The hoops are original (to the best of our knowledge) and are in good condition. The heads and wires have plenty of life left. The shell is in good condition and is structurally sound. The signatures are present on the inside and the badge is in good condition with a very visible serial number. The finish is worn with checking and 'ghosting' from the original hardware. Overall: Good condition. (6.5/10)
