Atelier Z Baby Z-4J Vintage Olympic White 2024
Atelier Z Baby Z, white, made in Japan 2024. Atelier Z is a Tokyo based custom builder of guitars and basses, launching in 1989 under the care of luthier Kokichi “Johnny” Motohashi. They're most famous for their hyper-playable, modern Jazz Bass style offerings, and find considerable favour with the pro end of the market in Japan, sitting alongside brands like Moon and Sadowsky. Alongside their many full scale offerings, they make these adorable little pocket rockets: the Baby Z. You can get an active P/J or a passive JJ setup, this being the latter, paired with a Mustang-style body, a slim fast neck and Z's trademark millimeter-perfect execution. At 3.6kg, this is lighter than many of the Strats and Teles in the shop, and it balances very nicely in the hands, either sitting or standing. The neck is a delight: amazingly tight, consistent maple and dark, lush rosewood, carved to a slim Jazz Bass style C and finished in satin... it's fast and friendly and feels like home straight away. The pickups are simple, but sound very clear and full, with more clarity and articulation than you'd usually get on a short scale. The rude red tort guard pops perfectly against creamy white finish, it's a great little vintage/modern crossover look. It can be hard to find a short scale bass that's made to a proper professional standard, so I'm always extremely tickled to offer up a Baby Z. Znazzy!

Cosmetic condition notes: minor finish wear. The headstock has minor scuffs on the end. The neck is clean and smooth in the hands, no major marks. The back has minor scuffs in the middle of the body. The sides have very minor dimples near the jack. The front has minor dimples around the bridge.
Overall: excellent condition (9/10)
Playing condition notes: Action is low, neck is straight, intonation is good, truss rod works. All electronics tested and working properly. Wearing fresh 45/105 strings.
Fret life: 9/10, minor wear only
