Bacchus BLP-CTM, black oil, made in Japan 2014. Bacchus launched in the 90s, under the very well regarded Deviser umbrella of brands. This is a great example of what they're capable of: it's very dialed indeed. It's a limited run take on the iconic Les Paul Custom, so you get the cool seven ply binding, split diamond headstock, gold hardware... it's the biz. This body and neck are made from tightly grained, super consistent African mahogany, on show underneath the cool open-pore oil finish. Being a satin finish, it catches the light in an alluring manner, and paired with the binding, gold, and super dark rosewood board, this really does look classy. The neck is a comfy, slim 60s style C shape, which is very agreeable, and the body is nicely balanced and not unreasonably heavy. The sound on offer is great: full and thick, but clear and expansive. The neck pickup is glassy and bell-like, while the bridge is creamy and wide with heaps of harmonics. This is a very high quality instrument, it really is frightfully good. Spooky!
