Bacchus Surf Windy Ald, sunburst, made in Japan 2015. Bacchus launched in the 1990s under the direction of master luthier Yasuo Momose, who trained all the luthiers in their workshop and championed a slower, more traditional truly handmade approach to building instruments. Bacchus' 'Surf' body shape pays tribute to the Fender offset models, but with a whole bunch of modern sensibility and precision build quality thrown in for good measure. You get the cool Jag-style offset body, but with a full scale, super fast neck with a modern 12" radius. The angled neck joint and satin finish make it super slick all the way up and down the fretboard. The hardware is sensible and robust: a handy stoptail and tune-o-matic style bridge, Gotoh tuners, simples switching and a wheel-style truss adjuster make it super easy to dial in a low action and get going fast. The block inlays, pearl fretboard binding, pearl guard and knurled knobs make for a racy aesthetic; it's a mean take on the classic curves. The alnico-V neck pickup is glassy, warm and gooey, with plenty of definition and sparkle balanced by a choral midrange. The bridge pickup, however, is much angier: it's midrange driven and pretty hot, liking nothing better than kicking your amp into beast mode and getting the party going. This is a really fun, fast-playing, great sounding guitar, and it looks awesome. Ask for more, go on.
