Bacchus Duke, brown oil finish, made in Japan 2005. Bacchus' mid-00s Handmade Series guitars were just that: proper handmade. That means hand selected wood, carved into shape by hand and finished by hand, all done to an excellent standard in the little workshop in Aska, Western Japan. The Duke was their LP-style offering, but done with that certain Bacchus panache: super high grade wood, matte-style oil finish, house-made vintage voiced pickups. It looks awesome, with a played-in look around the edges and a certain understated elegance. It feels great: the neck is a moderate rounded C style shape and the body offers plenty of natural resonance; it's very responsive and lively in the hands. The pickups have alnico II magnets, which are a bit more open and bright than the more common alnico-V on most G-style guitars, which adds clarity to the voice. The tone is eloquent and wide, with a warm harmonic complexity and a fat and clear fundamental note. This is an excellent example of Bacchus' superb craftsmanship, it will surely make someone very happy.
