Bacchus T-Master, made in Japan 2007, satin oil finish. Back in 1977, master luthier Yasuo Momose founded Headway guitars, and would go on to make a whole bunch of the best guitars ever produced in Japan under the growing Deviser umbrella of brands. This exceptional example was made as part of a limited run of twelve to commemorate three decades of the company, and they sure didn't mess around. First up, it's got a solid, one-piece rosewood neck. It's been carved by hand to a slim vintage C shape with a modern 12" radius with classy rolled fretboard edges, and it feels like Christmas morning (without the family drama!) in your hands. The body is a two-piece, centre joined premium piece of swamp ash, finished in natural oil. You'd think that combo makes for a heavy guitar, but it weighs in at a sprightly 3.1kg. It's amazingly resonant in the hands, every single little touch brings it alive. There's a satisfying percussiveness to the tone, which comes out all the more plugged in. The bridge pickup delivers some classic twang, but there's so much more: thick, weighty low end that punches hard and fast, complex and harmonious mids that add richness and focus and a superb clarity that brings out every note even the most dense of chords. The neck pickup is beefier, warmer and creamier, but with a similar snappy attack and immediacy. It's perfect for aggressive funk rhythm parts, rifftastic punk lines or crisp country licks, it'll cover all sorts of ground effortlessly and convincingly. The oil finish shows marks up close, but looks pretty clean from a foot away and lets the grain of the wood do the talking, and that neck and headstock... dang, that's a lux look. I'm a massive fan of this one, it's a spectacular guitar, and it'll give stuff by Fender Custom Shop, Suhr etc a very good run for their money. Thanks Yasuo!
