(ARCHIVE) Boot-Leg HZM-1.0 Hizumi Distortion Pedal
- Description

I discovered this brand by accident, but oh boy, what a discovery. Boot-Leg pedals have some of the dumbest names and worst graphics I've ever seen. But... they're handmade with great guts and sound exceptionally great. 'Hizumi' is Japanese for distorted, and this is a cool little idea. It's a two-stage distortion, the idea being to get you the kind of result you'd normally need two stacked distortions to achieve. The 'level' control controls the base pallet, it's somewhere in the RAT style, and then you can add the second gain stage with the 'hizumi' control. If you have both set past noon, you'll get a ridiculously saturated thick fuzz, that squeals with feedback between notes. Dial it back a bit, and you can get the meanest, juiciest, fullest rhythm tone... perfect for those big grungy rhythm parts. The range control adds a little EQ hump that moves up in the frequencies as you turn to the right, so you can get muff-style scooped tones or really honky midrange stank. Just don't expect a pretty label or a fancy box.
