Brian by Bacchus Jazz Bass, made in Korea late 90s, seafoam green. Surely in all of guitar history, no brand name as ever been as simultaneously daggy and awesome as 'Brian'. Bacchus guitars enjoy a famed reputation for exceptional craftsmanship, attention to detail and wood selection in Japan, so much so that they really haven't bothered marketing their excellent offerings internationally. Brian was Bacchus' first shot at manufacturing outside of Japan, and were made very briefly in the late 90s in Korea. It's a spectacular bass in the hands; simple and effective. The neck has a pretty flat radius and is reminiscent of modern-J variants like the Sadowsky Metro in shape. The body is light and springy, there's a heap of natural resonance and volume. Plugged in, this is classic-J: heaps of cut and definition, a nice growly midrange and a tight, tuneful low end. The green-on-green look has a certain seasick slickness; we're often asked to source basses in this hue but they're extremely scarce. This will keep up with some much more expensive instruments while simultaneously causing a creeping smile you can't wipe off your face. Get some Brian in your briny brain!
