Burny Super Grade RLG70, honeyburst finish, made in Japan circa 1990. Burny is an arm of Japanese guitar behemoths Fernandes, largely offering Gibson-style models. These early Super Grade models have a great reputation for build quality. This one feels great in the hands: it's a nice moderate weight, a comfy round neck carved from some very lush mahogany and all the details are well executed. The flame maple top is a really beautiful piece, there's a pleasing depth to it and the honeyburst finish has mellowed to a rich crème caramel hue. The pickups offer a pleasing contrast: the neck is dark and woody with a smoky depth, while the bridge pickup is hairy and boisterous with a creamy midrange. The middle position is especially good, it balances piquancy and meatiness very handsomely. Overall, I'd grade it Super.
