Crossley 'Wolfy' Custom, raisin burst, made in Australia 2010. Peter Crossley has been been offering fully custom acoustic and electric builds from his workshop in Metung, Victoria Australia for a couple of decades now. There's no CNC machines, he does everything by hand, and the quality of workmanship on offer is superb. This one is hand carved from a gorgeous slab of flame maple and mahogany, paired with an impressive seven-ply set neck with an ebony fretboard. One of Peter's specialities is inlay work, as evidenced by the amazing wolf adorning the fretboard. The super thin gloss nitro finish lets the grain show through and allows for maximum sonic resonance. The Lace pickups are designed to offer an active-style tone from a passive pickup. They're not so much super high-output, it's more that they offer superb detail and clarity. Although, with a generous dose of gain, the natural low end and power on deck becomes abundantly clear. You can get a pretty convincing LP-style thick growl from the neck pickup, or the bridge pickup offers a snarling, rich sizzle with heaps of punch. The neck is a D-style shape, so it's a little flat on the back to aid with proper technique. It's not exactly thin, but not huge either, treading a line between a typical Gibson-style profile and a more shreddy RG-esque shape. Peter's guitars start at $3800aud new, and that's without a custom inlay, the fancy neck and flame top, so it's likely this would have been closer to $5k new. These almost never come up on the used market, so help yourself to a gorgeous bargain while it's going.
