Daion YJB-600, sunburst, made in Japan 1978-9. Daion made some brilliant guitars in their day, and this is a cool example. Daion is a Japanese word translating approximately to 'mighty sound', and was initially the distribution end of the excellent Yamaki guitar making company. As the company progressed it got a bit complex, with Yamaki making guitars under the Daion brand for certain markets like Australia, alongside their other brands like Yamaki and Joo-Dee, as well as distributing Rickenbacker and Musicman in Japan. This cool little cucumber is a Performer Series, which were made from 1977-9 or so in Japan. It's got a fat piece of white ash for the body, which isn't a boat anchor but is reasonably hefty, which paired with the excellent slim neck makes for a whole lot of natural resonance. It sounds great: punchy and bright with a full, deep low end. The finish has a few knocks and bruises, but that yellow to brown burst fade is looking pretty delish I reckon. Mighty indeed.
