Duesenberg Gran Majesto, gloss cherry red, made in Germany 2018. Duesenberg have earned themselves some serious revere for their stylish designs and flawless execution, and rightly so. The most famous model is the iconic Starplayer TV, but surely their big bodies beauties are equally worthy of praise and admiration. This Gran Majesto was part of a limited run sold in a couple of years ago Australia; my understanding is that you can count the number of these in the country on one hand. It's certainly a special thing. The neck is a moderate deep C profile, so it's comfortable and quick to move around on without being to slim or too chunky and the care that's gone into the fret and finish work is immediately obvious in the hands. The Duesenberg signature spruce/maple combo body works a treat: it's light despite the size and extremely resonant, you can really feel all the notes pulsing around in there. The combo of a Domino P90 in the neck and a GrandVintage humbucker in the bridge is another Dues trademark. Paired with the four way switch, you can dial in everything from a Strat-ish neck pickup spank (with heeeeaps of body) to growly Gibson rock rhythm tones on the bridge to jazzy dark gooey goodness on the in-between positions. It covers a lot of tonal ground but stays extremely convincing at all times, with that certain hi-fidelity ping and clarity your constant companion. Now, to state the obvious: it looks good, too. The 'Phonic' pickup covers, the three strep headstock and inlays, the clear guard and rotary switch... all classy little art-deco touches that add a quirky class to the classic charm of the saucy cherry finish. These come up on the used market approximately never, so don't spend too long hesitating!
