Duesenberg Starplayer DJP-SP Surf Green 2002

Duesenberg DJP-SP Starplayer in surf green, made in Germany 2002 approx. These were a limited run model for the Japan market only, they never made it to a worldwide audience. Some of the 'bling' from the flagship Starplayer TV is missing, but this was designed as a reasonably-priced entrant into a crowded market. The appointments are nice: Duesenberg humbuckers with coil-tap, Kluson tuners, D-branded Bigsby style trem... all on a tasty semi-hollow mahogany body. Being a mahogany body, there's a darker edge to the tone than some other Duesenberg models, but it's still got that hi-fi 'ping' and clarity that's endeared these to their loyal fans; if you're a fan of the Jazzmaster tone, you'll likely enjoy this very much. The trademark build quality and classy feel is all there; there's a certain assuredness in the hands that's very appealing. The tweed case is a great bonus, this model usually shipped with a gig bag so scoring a cool Duesy case is a welcome addition. Did I mention it's green?

Model: Duesenberg DJP-SP Starplayer
Made: Germany, 2002 (best estimate, no serial on these)
Finish: surf green
Body: semi-hollow mahogany (centre block style)
Neck: rock maple, rosewood board, 25.5" scale, 15" radius
Mods: none
Pickups: original 'Grand Vintage' humbuckers
Case: Duesenberg branded tweed hard case, excellent quality, good condition

Cosmetic condition notes: mild finish wear. There's a couple of minor marks on the end and front of the headstock. Neck is pretty clean, just a couple of extremely minor marks behind the 1st and 7th frets and some discolouration from play. There's a little crack in the finish only at the neck joint. The back has some minor scuffs and marks from buckle rash, and there's some light marks and little chips on the bottom edge from the jack around to the strap pin. Sides are pretty good, just minor marks around from the jack and strap pin. The front is very clean, just a few dimples around the bridge and knobs and some light play scratches on the guard and top horn. Overall: very good condition (8/10).

Playing condition notes: Neck is straight, action is low, intonation is good, truss rod works. All electrics tested and working properly. Frets look pretty good wiht minor wear only, 8/10. Wearing fresh 11/49s.
