(SOLD) Ernie Ball Music Man StingRay 4H Olympic White 2005
EB Music Man StingRay, olympic white, made in USA 2005. The StingRay launched in 1977 and is among the most iconic and practical bass guitar models of all time. This one was made in 2005, so it's got a few miles on the clock and has yellowed to a gorgeous lemon cheesecake colour. The original white guard is included, but the 'reverse tuxedo' combo with a maple board certainly offers a strong aesthetic. The neck is straight, stable and super comfy: the oil+wax finish feels slick, the moderate rounded profile feels just right and you can feel the natural resonance with every note. Plugged in, you're in for a good time. The ash body contributes a focused, punchy attack with a pronounced midrange to carve a perfect niche into a band mix, and the EQ allows you to dial in all the added snap or rumble you need. For slap parts or hefty rock bass lines, it's hard to go past the sonic weight and clarity of a StingRay, and this delivers that classic combo with conviction. There's basically none of these available new in Australia at time of writing, and you'd be up for a small fortune even if you could find one, so... this one looks pretty good, no?
