EB Music Man StingRay, black on black with maple board, made in USA 2007. The 'Ray needs no introduction really, but here goes anyhow! Introduced in the late 70s and designed by Leo Fender, the StingRay marked a natural but definite progression in electric bass. The combination of a high mass bridge, humbucking pickup and active EQ make for a mammoth tone. There's a huge, weighty low end, balanced by a remarkable sustain and snappy, eloquent attack. For aggressive rock parts or snarky funk lines, it's a tone that's pretty hard to beat. This one is a lightweight example, which my scrawny little self certainly appreciates, but that also adds a whisker extra low-end immediacy to the tone too. The neck is straight and stable, the oil and wax finish feels great and the piece of maple on deck is very classy. There's a little mark up from the neck joint on the horn, and the OG case is MIA, so you can nab this one for a song and riff yourself happy all summer long.
