Fender 60th Anniversary American Standard Stratocaster Sunburst 2014
Fender 60th Anniversary Strat, sunburst, made in USA. The Stratocaster launched in 1954 to great acclaim, and has basically been the benchmark design for the electric guitar ever since. To commemorate the Strat's 60th anniversary, Fender did a couple of special models, including this one. The bare bones are that of the American Standard model, but with some interesting special touches. First, gold hardware, including some fetching pearloid button tuners and a smooth two-point tremolo bridge. It also got a 1954-style pickup set, an ash body and a fancy compound radius neck. This one is super light at 3.1kg, which combined with the super slick neck, makes for a very easy play feel. The pickups offer plenty of variation: the neck position is glassy, smooth and full, while the bridge is pretty abrupt with a gnarly midrange kick, and all those in-between positions have plenty of quacky snap and sizzle. This is going for similar bucks to a new Am Pro II (heck), which I would wager makes it a pretty swell little investment, never mind it being more fun to play. Long live the Strat!
