(SOLD) Fender 60th Anniversary Precision Bass Sunburst 2006
Fender 60th Anniversary Precision, sunburst finish, made in USA 2006. Fender officially launched in 1946, so in 2006, they released a set of four limited-run commemorative instruments to mark the occasion: Strat, Tele, Jazz Bass and... a Precision Bass. At first glance, this looks like an American Standard model, but there's a couple of cool tweaks. First, it got an American Vintage series pickup, which delivers a lovely warm 60s style growl with a rounded and fat bottom end. That's paired with the clever S1 switching, so you can get series and parallel options out of the pickup by pushing the secret button on the volume knob. Fender also dialled up the wood selection: this is made from a lightweight, two piece centre joined piece of alder, with a gorgeous ribbon grain on show under the sunburst finish. The neck plate and back of the headstock get some diamond anniversary bling, plus there's a little CZ stone in a 'Sixty Years' banner on the front of the headstock to add a cheeky twinkle. This one is missing the original case, but ships with a very swish tweed gig bag with the original docs and a strap and is priced accordingly. Score yourself a fun noteworthy P for a decent dash under what you'd pay for a new Am Pro II and get going on all those fun motown lines you've been meaning to learn. Heck yeah.
