Fender American Standard Strat, sunburst, 2013. This is a good example of the long standing and highly acclaimed model. Being a later version, it's wearing a nice thin finish and has some Custom Shop Fat 50s pickups. That offers a sweet take on the Strat tone: sparkly highs balanced by tight, controlled bass and an open and balanced midrange. The neck is finished in gloss on the board and satin on the back, which is a nice combo: it means the board is hard wearing and bright sounding and doesn't go that 'dirty maple' shape fully matte necks go, but the back is slick and smooth for effortless movement. The sunburst finish leans towards the reds and darker shades, showing off the nice streaky alder below. This is a classic through and through, you can't go wrong!
