Fender American Standard Tele, candy apple, made in USA 2011. Telecasters made in 2011 were bestowed with the 60th anniversary neck plate, commemorating six decades since the model blew everyone's minds in 1951. This one is an American Standard, not a limited run 60th model per say, but it's a nice touch regardless. First up, the candy apple looks great. It's got a nice depth and sparkle to it, so you can be confident it'll pop perfectly either on stage or your loungeroom wall. The neck is a comfy modern C shape with a bend-friendly 9.5" radius, and it has that certain reassuring solid feel and a great lightly worn satin finish... slick as they come. The alder body is pretty lightweight too. The 2011 model was blessed with a no-load tone pot and an overwound bridge pickup from factory, so I was tickled indeed when I plugged this in. The bridge pickup is fat, warm and expansive; rolling the tone off a whisker yields a gorgeous gooey rich tone. The neck pickup delivers plenty of spank and sparkle too... it really does sound very convincing indeed. It took me by surprise, but I really like this one, it's excellent.
