Fender American Vintage '62 Jag, burgundy mist, made in USA 2000. My oh my, isn't this quite the catch? The American Vintage reissue (or AVRI) line launched in the 80s to wide acclaim: finally, proper vintage style Fender guitars were back. This particular example was part of a very limited run made exclusively for the Japan market in 2000. Yamano, Fender's Japanese distributor at the time, ran their own notoriously strict quality control on these limited runs, so the build quality on offer here is in the Custom Shop vicinity, otherwise it would've simply been sent home for another try. It's superb in the hands: super lively, gorgeous resonant neck, perfectly weighted body.... awesome. These AVRI Jags have a slightly angled neck pocket from factory, so that eliminates many of the break angle related buzz and slippage issues sometimes experienced on vintage style Jags. This one arrived with some sensible mods like an Adjust-o-Matic bridge, but it needed some TLC: we've had it completely re-fretted with vintage spec wire and totally re-wired with top notch CTS pots, orange drop caps, new slider switches etc. by our preferred local ninja luthier. These AVRI Jags seldom pop up even in the standard sunburst etc type finishes, so nabbing one in a thin-skin burgundy mist is somewhat of a black swan event... you just won't see another one in the country anytime soon. Needless to say, it's absolutely outrageously phenomenally gorgeous... someone bring me a towel, I'm drooling everywhere. Tone-wise, it brings the goods to match: bright, chiming and clear as a bell, with thick and punchy lows and a heap of presence and complexity... dang. This is a clear cut above any current production model for build quality and tone; it's an absolute delight. You've got one shot at this one, don't miss!
