(SOLD) Fender Cowpoke Precision Bass Special Olympic White 1995
Fender 'Cowpoke' Precision Special, made n Mex 1995, white. These are an oddity with a cult fanbase; they were made very briefly in 1994-5 and then disappeared to the 'weird and wonderful' pages of Fender history. Basically what you're getting is a '51 style P body and guard, a strat-esque headstock, a P/J pickup setup and a handy 2-band preamp designed by bass design renegade Phil Kubicki... what a combo, right? It's certainly got an offbeat look, but the grain of the ash peaking through the aged white finish, the black guard and the classic 50s decals lend it an air of sophistication to balance the visual experience. The jazz-style neck is slim and finished in satin, offering a slick and quick feel that's easy to enjoy. Tone-wise, it all works very well indeed: the ash body lends it a stack of presence, attack and cut, the two pickups contrast and blend perfectly and the bass and treble boost/cut knobs combine to offer a stack of different tones... our fav is using and 80/20 mix of P and J pickups with a nudge of treble rolled off and a nudge of bass added; fatness for days! If you're cool enough for the Cowpoke, you're in for a treat.

Cosmetic condition notes: mild finish wear. There's some marks on the end of the headstock. The neck is pretty clean. The back has some buckle rash scuffs and light scratches, but there's no major marks. The sides are similar: a few little marks on the bottom and top horns, near the shoulder and near the jack; again, nothing major. The front is pretty clean, just some very minor chips around the top of the bridge pickup and some play scratches on and around the guard. Overall: very good condition (8/10)
Playing condition notes: action is low, neck is straight, intonation is good, truss rod works. All electrics tested and working properly. Frets have some minor wear but are looking great, 7/10 for life left. Set up with fresh 45/105s.
