Fender FR-50 Resonator, sunburst, made in China 2009. This is a tasty and addictive little number. It's a basic single-cone set in a spruce/mahogany body, nothing out of the ordinary, but it works really nicely. It has the signature dirty twang and growl you expect from a reso, but it has a mellow warmth that's very pleasing to the ear. The action is set to around 3mm at the 12th fret: high enough to use a slide if desired, low enough for regular play without discomfort. The moderately shaped round neck is intuitive and friendly. This is an easy guitar to pick up and play, and the sound is really pleasing; time seems to fly by when it's in your hands. Now, how much gravel do you need to consume to sing like Tom Waits?
