Fender '52 Tele, butterscotch blonde, made in Japan 2007-10. I really needn't say much about this, but hey, here goes. This is a fairly late model example of Fender Japan's take on the iconic original solid body electric: the 1952 Telecaster. You get some classic appointments like the ash body, single-ply black guard, three saddle bridge, spaghetti logo and vintage-voiced alnico pickups. The butterscotch finish is superb: the ash grain on show is very appealing and this lets it speak without being too showy. The neck is a slim modern C shape, so it's super comfy and never makes you work too hard, it'd be a good companion for a long gig. There's heaps of classic Tele-twang on deck, balanced by a warm and open midrange and a rounded, immediate bass. It's a lovely strummer for big rhythm parts, all the nuance shines through via the sparkly top end but there's a certain gooey fatness to the low end that keeps everything together. These seldom last long around here, guess why? (It's because they're good!)
