Fender VSP '54 Strat, black, crafted in Japan 2007. This is an example of the very well regarded 'Vintage Special Project' models; the highest-of-the-high-end Strats of it's day. These get all the best appointments: nitro topcoat finish, deluxe two-piece premium alder body, premium maple neck also finished in thin gloss nitro, cold-rolled steel block bridge with stamped saddles and in this case, a set of tasty Dimarzio pickups. The bridge pickup has been swapped out for a Duncan rails style humbucker, adding some further oomph to the equation. The tone on deck is sensational: piano-like clarity on the top end, punctuated by a rounded weighty fullness on the bottom end and a breathy, complex midrange. It's sensitive to the lightest touch but still enjoys a goos thrashing. The neck is moderately chunky soft-V shape, perfect for serial thumb-overhangers and pretty intuitive once you're used to it. This will scare USA made guitars at twice the dime, it's a seriously spicy biscuit.
