Fender '57 P, black, crafted in Japan 2006-8. It's pretty classic, right? The evergreen maple board and tuxedo finish combo looks super classy; it hits those iconic curves just right. The neck is a chunky D style profile with a vintage radius; it's arrow-straight and sturdy in the hands and features some beautiful waved grain lines. The body is light and resonant and loud unplugged, you can feel the mojo straight away. Tone-wise, there's a nice punchy fat low end balanced by a little whisker of snap and sizzle on the top end; it'll cut through a mix just enough to sit well without being too narcissistic. This will happily go from classy jazz standards to nasty punk spite without batting an eyelid; it's the bass for every day of the week.
