Fender '57 P, two tone burst, made in Japan 1986. We love a good E serial Fender around here, and lo and behold, I also love this one. These mid 80s instruments out of the famed Fujigen Gakki plant enjoy a reputation for extraordinary build quality, and this is no exception: perfect finish work, perfect fretwork, excellent wood selection... it just feels great in the hands. The neck is a chunky D type profile; there's plenty of meat in the back of it. It's a gorgeous piece of maple, it really does feel and looks superb. Tonally, this has a heap of attack and presence: the maple board adds a little bite to the top end and the lightweight resonant body adds a whole lot of immediacy and low-end thump. The finish has a few marks to show for three and a bit decades of play, but it's in good overall shape and looks all the better for a little love around the edges. You can't go wrong here, this rules.

Cosmetic condition notes: minor finish wear. Headstock has some minor marks on the end and top edge. The neck is clean and smooth in the hands, minor dimples on the back only. The back has a pretty obvious patch of 'buckle rash' patch near the neck plate, other than that it's just widespread light scuffs and surface scratches. The sides have a few things to note: scuffs on the top horn, scuffs and a ding on the elbow area, a few dimples near the jack. The front is pretty tidy, just some dimples and light scratches around the bridge and some play wear on the guard and horn. The guard is a little warped, it's lifting 1-2mm on the top side. Overall: good condition (7/10)

Playing condition notes: Action is low, neck is straight, intonation is good, truss rod works. All electrics tested and working properly. Frets look pretty good, there's some normal wear but they're fairly even with no major buzz issues; 7/10 for fret life left. Set up with fresh 45/105 Moonshiners strings.

This listing is an archived entry. We love to look back and remember fondly what characters we've had through the store, so we keep them around for reference.
