Fender '72 Tele Custom, black, crafted in Japan 1999-02. These TC models are always awesome guitars, there's a lot to like about them. First up, it feels good. The neck is a slim rounded 70s U profile, so it's slim at the nut but with a nice little moderate bit of meat in the back, so it's easy to move around on and feels super sturdy and straight in the hands. At 3.5kg this is a lighter example of the model, which translates to plenty of natural volume and low end. The pickups have been changed out, but the choices are sensible. The bridge pickup is a Fender Noiseless, which is gloriously low in hum and delivers a warm and sparkly Tele-twang. The neck pickup is a PAF-style humbucker, which has a custom mount to fit the larger route hole and still fits nicely in terms of string spacing. You can split the neck pickup via the push/pull tone pot, so it's cool to get a handy single coil tone as well as the thick, gooey humbucker sound. This is a really fun, great sounding guitar that'll happily cover corporate slick gigs or sweaty punk shakedowns.

The back has a decent chip on the bottom horn, a few dents in the elbow area as well as widespread dimples and light scuffs around the body, especially on the top horn. The sides have a minor chip near the rear strap pin, a couple of dents near the jack and in the elbow area as well as dimples and scuffs around the whole body. The front has widespread dimples and scuffs around the body and some standard play wear on the guard and horn, plus the knob caps are missing. Overall: good condition (7/10).

Playing condition notes: Action is low, neck is straight, intonation is good, truss rod works. All electronics tested and working properly. The frets are in good shape with plenty of height, 7/10 for life left. Wearing fresh 10/46s Moonshiners strings.

This listing is an archived entry. We love to look back and remember fondly what characters we've had through the store, so we keep them around for reference.
