Fender Japan Boxer Series Stratocaster ST-456 Black 1986
Fender Boxer Strat, black on black, made in Japan 1986-7. The Boxer Series was Fender's modern offerings from the mid 80s, offering some twists on their classic shapes aimed at hard rock and shred players. This particular model is one of the more moderate takes: a full scale HSS Strat with a modern fretboard radius, simple two knob electronics and simple robust hardware. The neck is very good: as with many of these Fujigen made, 80s era Strats, it's a very carefully chosen piece of maple, carved to a very slick slim C shape and capped with a gorgeous very dark rosewood board. The single coils are on the hot side of vintage, so they pack plenty of low end oomph and attack, but still slice nicely on the top end. The humbucker is fat and creamy, with an angular midrange growl that loves an dirty tube amp. The black on black look is pretty slick too, it's clean and mean and will go nicely with all your outfits. What a foxy Boxy!
