Fender Boxer Series Telecaster, black, made in Japan 1986. The Boxer Series was Fender Japan's 'modern' offerings in the 1980s. There was Floyd Rose equipped stuff, HH Strats, active basses and a bunch of other stuff. There was also some very cool medium scale models, including this Tele, with a 24.75" Gibson-style scale length. It's a small change, but it makes a difference: it feels a little more comfy and compact in the hands. and it darkens up the tone. As is common with these early Fujigen-era Fenders, the neck really does feel amazing. The maple is tightly and consistently grained and the rosewood is super dark and rich. A previous owner has switched the pickups for a set of Fender's Pure Vintage '64 pickups, which deliver a very tasty, clear tone. There's a great balance of low-down fatness and top end sparkle, which translates very nicely both clean and dirty. The classic white-on-black look will always work, it's understated but classy. If you've got smaller hands, or you just want a Tele that's a little bit different, this is a super fun option.
