Fender Japan 'Medium Scale Stratocaster ST62M-53 Sunburst 1998
Fender '62 Strat, medium scale model, sunburst, crafted in Japan 1997-00. Here's a delightful little oddity! What we have here is a traditional '62 style Strat, but with one major difference: it's a Gibson-style 24.75" scale instead of the usual 25.5". It's only 1.9cm in difference, but you really feel it in the hands. The shorter scale makes for easy bends, takes the edge off big Jimi-style stretches and is conducive to faster movement around the fretboard. It's a handy difference if you're smaller in stature of if you just want your Strat to feel that bit more effortless in the hands. Tone-wise, this packs the traditional Strat-spank, but with a very slightly shorter sustain and a little more natural bass. The bridge pickup position is especially good; the shorter scale takes a little edge off the 'bite' so it really sounds terrific into a dirty amp. These seldom pop up, so if you've been keeping an eye out for one, here's your shot at a very clean example. Lovely!
